Saturday, May 14th is World Fair Trade Day, and Burlington is throwing a celebration! The Peace & Justice Center’s Gabriela Brenneman will be at the Farmer’s Market in City Hall Park sharing the work we do to support Fair Trade products and practices. We will also be celebrating here at 60 Lake Street with Fair Trade coffee sampling, eating brownies made from Fair Trade cocoa, blowing bubbles outside, hula-hooping, face painting, and more! Children are also invited to come and color a petition for Hershey Company to sell Fair Trade Chocolate!
The Peace & Justice Store, which carries local, Fair Trade, and Green America certified products, is a store that serves as an educational tool for the public and a representation of our mission as an organization. Because Fair Trade encourages fair labor conditions, environmental sustainability, community development, fair prices, and direct trade, we feel that it is very important to support businesses that provide Fair Trade products, and to educate the community about the opportunities to support sustainable business practices locally and around the world. Stop by and support dignity and hope for farmers and artisans, a better future for our planet, and tastier, higher quality products for you!
