We are excited to welcome three interns to our team this spring. Please help us welcome Martha MacGregor, Holly Morway, and Thomas Caswell! Here they are to introduce themselves:
Hi! I’m Holly Morway, I’m 19 years old, and my pronouns are they/them/theirs.
When I was younger, I lived with my father part-time and him being homeless, I witnessed the hardships he had to go through and that (as well as being a queer non-binary person) made me especially attuned to the ways in which systems of oppression work together to create an environment of perpetual stress and inequality. This is just one of the reasons why I’m excited to intern at the PJC, but I’m also grateful for this opportunity because I’m someone who has always been committed to helping those around me and those who are in need. Racial justice, economic justice, and equity for all is something I feel very passionately about and am very eager to learn more about in my time at the PJC.
I’m currently a sophomore at the University of Vermont, majoring in sociology and double minoring in gender, sexuality and women’s studies and history. My specific interest in my sociology studies is LGBTQ+ oppression and the different facets of it. I’m originally from Shrewsbury, MA (right next to Worcester), but I’m moving out and living in Burlington this coming June. Fun fact – I have a chocolate lab named Arlo and my roommates and I will be adopting a cat when we move into our house. My interests vary a lot, but right now I’m really into crocheting and making different types of coffee. I’m super excited to be interning for the Peace and Justice Center – I’m excited to be a part of an organization with the same values and aspirations as me.
My Name is Thomas, I’m a Senior at UVM studying disability, sexuality, and racial equity. I am an openly gay autistic man that’s a Vermonter born and raised.
I have volunteered at Peace and Justice Center before and I had a good experience. There was so much I learned and I am looking forward to continuing my experience with this internship and learning how to make this world a more inclusive, diverse, and accepting place.
Hello! My name is Martha MacGregor (she/her), and I am one of the new Programming Interns here at the Peace and Justice Center. I’m currently a junior at Saint Michael’s College majoring in Business Administration, with a minor in Anthropology and focus in Marketing. I am beyond excited for the opportunity to expand my knowledge on Fair Trade, Social Justice and Peace work – as well as to advocate for those most affected by these issues.
I was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts, and in my free time enjoy photography and any time spent in nature. After going to college for two years in Roanoke, Virginia and transferring to Vermont, it became clear to me how crucial it is to recognize and challenge a culture that permits oppression. Since moving, I have had the pleasure of working with refugees in the local Burlington area, which has opened my eyes on the firsthand impacts of these flawed systems. I hope to use the knowledge learned through this internship to further these conversations as well as promote an intersectional lens in the business and development world.
