Globalization has contributed to the demand for global trade and, as a result, the creation of free trade agreements. These agreements are intended to benefit the countries involved and stimulate trade and job growth, but who has it actually benefited?
Come to the Peace & Justice Center on Saturday, May 20 from 3pm-4pm for our Fair Trade vs. Free Trade Presentation and Discussion. This program examines economic and corporate globalization to see how these policies have allowed corporations to profit at the expense of people and the planet. The presentation will also introduce the idea of Fair Trade, which is one of the ways that the atrocities associated with free trade can be addressed.
People are encouraged to arrive at 2:30pm to participate in a New Volunteer Orientation.
We are committed to including the Deaf community and others who need language interpretation; if you need ASL or other language interpretation, please let us know ASAP and we will work to make that happen.
In the meantime, take a look at this list of Fair Trade Principles established by the Fair Trade Federation and come on down to the Peace & Justice Store to check out our selection of fair trade products from around the world!
