Upcoming PJC Events

The following events are hosted, organized, co-sponsored, or in collaboration with/by the Peace & Justice Center and are open to the public – we hope you can join us!

We charge a fee for many of our publicly hosted programs. No individual is turned away from any of our our programs due to a lack of funds. People under 25 are not expected to contribute financially. We ask those who are able to pay full price or more for our programs to do. This helps keep our programs financially accessible to all, regardless of income. Not sure if you should pay less, more, or nothing? View our Sliding Scale document to find an amount that feels appropriate to you.

Honk Protest to Free ICE Detainees from Vermont and Everywhere

April 17 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

Join Vermont’s first Honk Protest at the ICE Data Center in Williston to protest the inhuman and unnecessary detention of immigrants including those arrested in VT and detained at the Stafford County House of Corrections in Manchester, New Hampshire. This protest is a non-arrest/non-civil disobedience protest. We ask everyone to help ensure the safety of our community members who are more vulnerable to state violence at the hands of the police.

While the CDC urges everyone to take life-saving precautions such as social distancing, frequent handwashing, and masks and gloves to combat COVID-19, people in detention can do nothing to protect themselves. If staying 6 feet apart is hard for you, imagine being detained and unable to distance from anyone around you, including staff who may be carriers. The vast majority of immigrants at Stafford have established communities and homes in the U.S. They are already separated from their friends, family, and community. Most are held on civil immigration charges and have committed no crime. They pose no danger to society and should be at home, not imprisoned, where detention can quickly become a death sentence during COVID-19.

This protest is to call attention to the plight of more than 34,000 people imprisoned right now as a result of the U.S.’s racist deportation machine who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19.

Join us in our demands:
-Release all detainees
-Stop ICE arrests and deportations
-Close the ICE data center in Williston, VT
-Ensure that undocumented essential workers receive benefits and are included in COVID-19 response plans.

Assemble in your cars (with ONLY other people from your household!) at Home Depot (759 Harvest Ln, Williston) to follow the leader and HONK when passing the ICE Data Center at 188 Harvest Ln (not the whole time). We will pass by multiple times and then reassemble at Home Depot. We encourage everyone to put bright, visible signs on their cars for this protest. We will share sign ideas and templates in the event discussion.

Can’t be there in person? Follow Community Voices for Immigrant Rights on Facebook to watch the livestream! Keep an eye on the Facebook event page for updates as they emerge.
