Privilege and Accountability for Aspiring Allies

October 17, 19, November, 2, 7, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-8:30pm This workshop is designed for participants to increase their skills as aspiring allies who can more effectively build support for and with colleagues, neighbors, and other community members to address oppression. The Peace & Justice Center is exploring the idea of forming a Peace Team to serve the Burlington Area as a force the community can called upon. Deconstructing Racism: Redesigning Curriculum for Equity and Inclusion

Day-long workshop for educators interested in ensuring their curriculum represents diverse cultural perspectives and interrupts systemic racism.  Using educational materials from their own classrooms, educators will collaborate with our visiting professionals and other educators to revisit lesson content, methods, and assessments.  Jeh Kulu’s Music Director Ismael Bangoura will conclude the day with a West African drum lesson.    Time will also be dedicated to exploring approaches to having difficult conversations with students about race and seizing the opportunities that arise suddenly in the classroom.   We are thrilled to welcome opening speaker, Chief Don Stevens, of…

Thursday, November 9th from 4-5 pm in Cheray 101, at St. Michael’s College. Free Trade vs. Fair Trade Presentation in partnership with St. Mike’s Civil Rights Alliance and Juntos. Learn basic information about globalization and how policies and practices have paved the way for huge companies to profit at the expense of people and the planet. November Toxic Whiteness Bag Lunch Discussion Group
